Get your area cleared in one session. This does not mean you are done. But instead of taking several sessions to get to that first clearing, you can get there in one session. The costs reflect the fact that you are able to do this, yet they are quite  reasonable if you do the math.

Photo Epilation Compared to Electrolysis

Laser, IPL & needle electrolysis
Each is a valuable tool in the permanent hair removal trade. Each has its unique advantages.

Electrolysis is not more  powerful (power is measured in milli amps),  laser and IPL power are measured in joules or watt seconds.  The highest setting on the electrolysis machines would translate to about 1 joule.  A typical setting on a laser my be 28 joules.   Because  electrolysis is applied by a probe or needle directly to each hair follicle one at a time, the power levels can feel extraordinarily high, assuming the patient and his/her skin can take it (and to even approach 1% of  the power delivered by LASER or IPL, you probably can not). This is actually an  indirect application of power (electricity) to a needle to cause heat then transfer that heat  to the hair, this is less efficient!  However, with electrolysis the color of the hair has little effect on the effectiveness of the treatment other than light hair being harder to see.  Keep in mind however that only a small number of hairs can be removed in a reasonable period of time using this method (needle electrolysis). Also if you have waxed or plucked hair in the past you may have a large number of distorted follicles and a needle can only bend just so far, and the need to be at the root with that needle is considerably impaired.   I only recommend this method for removal of white hair, or as an adjunct treatment in specialized cases, at this time, the improvements in technology have made this all but obsolete for other types of hair.

Photo epilation has its advantages in the area of its ability to cover massive areas 100% rather than picking out only the worst hairs to fit the treatment into a given time frame. This mass attack method gives multiple advantages:

  1. Total clearing of an area in one appointment (a large area (like legs) may still need 2 hours scheduled, but much of that time is used to numb, shave, and/or shape the area.) The first treatment may kill between  9–25% of the pigmented hairs (because that is all that is available in one cycle for some areas)  and less on lighter hairs 8-15% depending on how light the hair is and the skin color is a factor.  For lighter colored hairs IPL has an advantage over laser, because of multiple wavelength technology.
  2. However, the ability to hit - hundreds of thousands- millions of hairs in an hour instead of hundreds is a devastating advantage for the patients and electrologist. In a light skin and dark hair situation, you could expect a reduction of hair in the neighborhood of 60–90% in the course of 5–12 clearings. In the case of lighter colored hair and darker skin, the number of treatments to achieve this result will more than likely be larger.
  3. The advantage is not depending on the hair being at the surface. In fact, the hair must be very short or it must be trimmed or shaved off. The hair is attacked under the surface of the skin, and there is no needle or invasive procedure at all. This can be an advantage on some distorted hairs as the needle cannot bend around tight corners, and light is not affected by this factor.

Waxing

This is a process where a sticky substance (usually wax) is used to hold the hairs on a paper or cloth strip, and the strip is ripped from the skin taking the hairs with it. It is literally a massive form of plucking or tweezing the hair and has the exact same negative effects as tweezing. The hair will grow deeper and coarser as time goes on due to the body's interpretation of the rough environment, and its natural response is to toughen the body parts that are affected.

How Does It Work?

Photo epilation is based on the fact that certain wavelengths of light will effectively discharge their energy on a corresponding chromaphor. Okay, let's try English! The intense light pulse will hit a target, in this case melanin, the protein that colors hair and causes it to get exceptionally hot. The skin—if it is light colored and not exposed to too much ultra-violet light, will appear transparent to the light wave and therefore will not be harmed. In the real world, there is some melanin even in light-colored skin, so we have to account for this absorption in the skin and carefully choose our settings accordingly.

This process is very similar to thermolysis or short-wave electrolysis, the type my mother started with 50 years ago. It is not as effective as the blend method, although I know hundreds of electrologists who would take my head off for that statement, nevertheless it is true. Therefore, again if you took 100 hairs with the laser and 100 hairs with the blend method of electrolysis, the blend would have a higher percentage of permanent kill ratio. However, if you need thousands of hairs removed or hundreds removed fast, the laser has an extreme advantage.  Also the # of treatments are extensively less when doing IPL or laser.

The specific equipment I am using are the newest and most advanced technology on the market and gives advantages others do not!
